I've spent 35 years inside the mortgage machine.
Not as a spectator. As someone who built, broke, fixed, and rebuilt the systems that move this industry.
35 years inside the mortgage machine — across sales, technology, operations, marketing, data, and leadership.
The Long View
I spent more than 15 years at New American Funding, working directly alongside Rick Arvielo — founder and CEO of one of the largest independent mortgage lenders in the country. That proximity gave me a rare vantage point: I wasn't siloed in one department. I moved across sales, technology, operations, marketing, data, customer engagement, legal, and compliance. I learned to speak every department's language and understand how a decision in one area ripples through the rest.
Before that, I spent decades in the trenches of mortgage — originating loans, managing teams, and navigating every market cycle this industry has thrown at us. Thirty-five years gives you pattern recognition that no course or certification can replicate.
That's the foundation I bring to every conversation, every article, and every engagement.
How I Think
Clarity over complexity
Mortgage is complicated enough. I translate the technical into the practical — for loan officers, leaders, and consumers alike.
Systems thinking
Every decision has downstream consequences. I look at the whole board, not just the next move.
Honest assessment
I don't tell people what they want to hear. I tell them what they need to know — even when it's uncomfortable.
Earned perspective
35 years in this industry means I've seen the cycles, the pivots, the failures, and the breakthroughs. That history informs everything.
Relentless follow-through
I close the loop. Every time. Whether it's a question, a referral, or a commitment — I follow through.
35 years in mortgage doesn't make you an expert. It makes you honest about what you know — and what you don't.
